Hsi-deh Wu Honored for French Education

【Wan-xuan Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】Professor of the Department of French, Hsi-deh Wu, received the French Education Knights of Honor Award from the La France à Taiwan (France in Taiwan Association). The presentation ceremony took place on Feb. 18 in the Librairie Le Pigeonnier (Pigeon Library) and ambassador of French Education Knights of Honor, M. Benoit Guidee, presented the award personally. Hsi-deh Wu is the third member of TKU to receive this award after Director of the Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee and former Director of the Department of French, Shu-chuen Yang. This achievement is not only an honor for Hsi-deh Wu, but also illustrates the dominance of the French program at TKU over other private universities in Taiwan.

Cheers Magazine Names TKU #1 for 19th Consecutive Year

【Pin-jie Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】Cheers Magazine has recently finished their annual survey, interviewing 2000 enterprises to take note of which university graduates are the most preferred in the work field. This marks the 19th year in-a-row that Tamkang University is ranked number one amongst private universities in Taiwan. TKU was ranked at 9th place in terms of universities in Taiwan overall.

Global Views Monthly and 1111 Hold TKU in High Position

【Pin-jie Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】Global Views Monthly conducted a survey of the most preferred university graduates for employment of the year 2016, tying Tamkang University and National Tsing Hua University at 6th place. This study was conducted through the use of internet surveys sent out to 1,594 industries. The participants consisted of 47.5% Mass Production Manufacturers, 28% Information Industries, 6.2% Human Services, 5.9% Construction/ Real Estate, 4.3% Finance and Commercial Services, 4.3% Trading and Exchange, 2.2% Department Sales Co., 1.2% Medical/Farming and .3% Media.

WRWU Shows TKU Make Gains

【Yu-xuan Zhou, Tamsui Campus Report】Webometrics Rankings of World Universities (WRWU) has finished their global survey of online rankings,placing Tamkang University at 415th in the world, 55th in Asia, 9th in the country and number one among national private universities, beating out 500 tough competitors. Last year in July when the survey was completed, TKU ranked at 478th globally, and 80th in Asia, showing significant improvement among its standing for internet search.

Chung-kuang Koo, the Story of an Artist

The A Chung-kuang Koo of the Artist-In-Residence, is a man who carries the essence of artistry with him everyday. From his painter’s hat, back pack and beard, it’s easy to see he is a person who represents his lifestyle. He stated, “I’m an art promoter! If it has anything to do with art, I want to involve Tamkang University!” He helped to promote an art exhibition for TKU this semester that captured diverse aspects of art. He stated, “Even though TKU doesn’t have an art program, students and teachers can still come in contact with many artistic concepts at the Chang Carrie Fine Arts Center.”

Lanyang Embraces the Whole World with Love

The Political Economics Association, Wen-fan Dormitory Alliance, Rock n Roll Research Club, Hua-li International Group, Tamkang Lanyang Book Club, and the Tamkang Lanyang Volleyball Team jointly held the, “I Love Lanyang, Embrace the Whole World,” event on Feb. 17. Achievements were displayed consisting of Character Development, Professional Skills and Services and the Junior Year Study Abroad Program.

TKU Professor Travels to India to Give Lecture

【Hong-wei Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】The Director of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hui-huang Hsu, was invited to give a lecture at the IEEE SPIN-2016 Special Guest Lecture on Feb. 11-12 at Amity University in India. He was greeted by founder of the University, Ashok K. Chauhan. Hui-huang Hsu gave a lecture themed, “Recognizing Human Behavior via Smartphone Sensory Data.”

TKU Graduates are Satisfied Overall

【Kai-jun Lin, Tamsui Campus Report】The Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development ran a survey, exploring the level of satisfaction for Tamkang University students that graduated from the 2013-14 academic year. 64.2% of the students responded to the survey, expressing that the eight learning virtues of TKU have had a great influence over their success. The top three virtues that the graduated students pointed out as the most helpful were Teamwork, Independent Thinking and Moral Character.
