Hsi-deh Wu Brings Honor to TKU, France and Himself

【Wan-xuan Qin, Special Report】Editor, Translator, Author and 30-year teacher of French Language, Hsi-deh Wu, was recognized by France on Feb. Hsi-deh Wu, received the French Education Knights of Honor Award from the La France à Taiwan (France in Taiwan Association). The presentation ceremony took place on Feb. 18 in the Librairie Le Pigeonnier (Pigeon Library) and ambassador of French Education Knights of Honor, M. Benoit Guidee, presented the award personally. Hsi-deh Wu is the third member of TKU to receive this award after Director of the Office of International and Cross Strait Affairs, Pei-wha Chilee and former Director of the Department of French, Shu-chuen Yang. This achievement is not only an honor for Hsi-deh Wu, but also illustrates the dominance of the French program at TKU over other private universities in Taiwan.

TKU Hosts 2017 World Weightlifting Competition

【Shi-qing Huang, Tamsui Campus Report 】The 2017 World Weightlifting Competition (29th Summer Universiade) will be held at the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium! Director of the Office of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, expressed, “TKU will do its very best to make this a great event! We have also invited members of the office of Physical Education to spectate and it is truly an honor to have been selected to hold this event. In addition, Taiwan has already broken many world records regarding weightlifting so the entire world will be watching what takes place at TKU.”

TKU Students Absorb Abundance of Japanese Culture

【Hui-ping Liu, Shi-qing Huang, Tamsui Campus Report】The Center for Japanese Studies held the “21st Century Asian Security and Crisis Management Taiwanese and Japanese Academic Forum” in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on Mar. 4. The event included 20 educators of Taiwan and Japan, speaking on issues of national security and Taiwanese/Japanese relations. Chief Representative of Interchange Association (Japan), Mikio Numata, President of the Society for Security and Crisis Management, Futami Suru, were invited to give lectures on the issue. Also, former Ambassador of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, Toshio Watanabe, described the recent international situation involving Taiwan and Japan.

TKU International Culture Share

【Hui-ping Liu, Tamsui Campus Report】Do you want to understand the politics, economics and culture of other nations? Come join the International Culture Share! From Mar. 2 to Jun. 1 the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs will be holding the cultural exchange every Wednesday at 6:30pm on the 10th floor of the Ching-sheng Building. International students have been invited to introduce their countries customs and people while sharing their experience of living in Taiwan.

TKU and SIIS Discuss Improving Cross-Strait Relations

【Yu-xuan Zhou, Tamsui Campus Report】The College of International Studies and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) jointly held the 20th Annual Academic forum in Shanghai under the theme, “The New Global Structure and Cross Strait Affairs - the Challenge of the Development of Peace.” Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai lead a team team of seven professors of the College of International Studies, including the Dean, Kao-cheng Wang, to participate in the exchange.

Xian University Students Come to TKU for Exchange

【Wan-xuan Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】Last week students from Xian University of Architecture and Technology arrived to Tamkang University for a forum to initiate exchange programs. Associate Professor of Xian University of Architecture and Technology, Qian-xi Zhang, brought 9 students from Mar. 2-8 to meet with 6 students of TKU’s Department of Architecture to discuss “Co-Living.” For the event, Head Architect of the Yun-lin County government, Zhi-kai Xu, was invited to share his experience.

New Diplomatic Discussion Courses Aid Students with Professional Skills

【Yu-xiang Sun, Wan-xuan Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】The College of Foreign Languages and Literature opened the “Diplomatic Discussion Course,” inviting experienced professionals of the related-field along with veteran academic diplomatic educators to teach on international relations. The course was immediately filled by 175 eager students.

International Women’s Day!

【Hui-ping Liu, Tamsui Campus Report】Mar. 8 was International Women’s Day and all the women who went to the Non-book Material Section on the 5th floor of the library were able to receive a small gift. In addition, women who watched the featured film, “The Intern” and made note of it on Facebook were also given a small prize. The Non-book Material Section featured Gender Equality as the theme of their book, video and movie display. Currently there are 438 videos displayed in the exhibition featuring the topic, allowing comments and ratings for viewers to actively participate.
